Nancy the Educator
About
For over a decade, I created public art installations in conjunction with educational and community programs. I have led a variety of art workshops for the senior community of Northern Philadelphia, Mid-Bronx Senior Citizens Council, Andrew Freedman Home in the Bronx, John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Wisconsin, the NYC Health and Hospitals at the Bellevue Hospital, and Gotham Gouverneur Hospital’s communities and Art Bridge, NYC. My public art pieces are dedicated to the people who experience them, to the neighborhood where they are placed.
My Mission
I focus on the experience. My vision is to share my knowledge in the most welcoming environment, from the simplest to the complex tasks. I devote time with my students to getting to know them and introducing materials and techniques through color and shapes, creating a spontaneous, harmonious, and nutritive learning experience.
Lessons
I designed a variety of lesson plans for the public programs in conjunction with the art organizations mentioned above. The different activities included drawing, painting, sculpting, and basic elements of design applications. Participants or students had the opportunity to work with various materials such as charcoal, markers, stencils, air-dry clay, acrylics, textile paint, and surfaces such as canvas, wooden panels, and fabric. The workshops were suitable for families or participants from 5- to 99-year-old. Additionally, I have substantial experience as a teaching artist working with Public Schools with children from K to 12. Some of the organizations I have worked with through outreach programs are Lehman College Art Gallery, Hunter College High School, and NJ Teens Art Festival.
