Nancy Saleme is a Venezuelan-American visual artist living in New York City since 1995. Saleme has earned degrees from various schools worldwide, such as the University of Fine Arts in Poland, the National School of Fine Arts of Peru, Cristóbal Rojas School of Visual Arts in Caracas, Venezuela, and The Arts Students League of New York. Her work has been included in prominent national and international venues such as Gallery Na Kashirke Moscow-Russia, Arteamericas Miami-FL, AAF Contemporary Art Fair NYC, Chicago Art Fair-Art London, and Art Singapore with Artered Gallery NYC, Praxis International Art NYC, Gallery Shoshinkan Nagano-Japan, Galería Club Empresarial Lima-Peru.
Besides her extensive exhibition record locally and internationally, Saleme has been granted awards and grants from important institutions such as the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures, The Puffin Foundation, UNIQLO/NYC Parks, El Museo del Barrio, and Newark Arts. She has been commissioned public art pieces by the Garment District Alliance and the DOT of NYC, John Michael Kohler Art Center, 4Corners Public Art Initiatives in Downtown Newark, NJ, and NYC Health + Hospitals Arts in Medicine Community Mural Project for the Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan. Recently, Saleme inaugurated her first sculptural and environmental installation with Newark Artist Collaboration by AUDIBLE and a two-block-long mural for Baruch Houses/NYCHA, commissioned by Art Bridge Projects/NYC Cultural Affairs.
Saleme has been an artist-in-residence at Vermont Studio Center, ChaShaMA NYC, and the Children’s Museum of Manhattan, and she was awarded SU-CASA artist-in-residence through the Brooklyn Arts Council in 2022 and 2023. Her work was featured in NJ PBS, State of The Arts, Bloomberg Connects, TimeOut NYC, The New York Times, Artdaily.org, Wescover.com, Secret NYC, GothamToGo, Fox 5, Newark Arts Journal, Galerie Magazine, RYL Magazine, Univision News, Remezcla, EFE Spanish international news agency, El Diario-La Prensa, Univision 41, New York Daily News, Riverdale Press, CUNY TV, News 12 The Bronx, and ArtNet News. Saleme’s work is in the collections of Copelouzos Family Art Museum, Athens, Greece, Williamsburg Art & Historical Center, Brooklyn, The Venezuelan American Endowment for the Arts, New York, NYC Health + Hospitals Arts in Medicine, as well as numerous private collections.
